About Us

Who are we?

If you work in healthcare in Kent or Medway, we are your UNISON branch. Most of our members are from Kent and Medway Mental Health Trust (formerly, KMPT) but we also represent members in care homes and in NHS affiliated services across the county.

Your union reps aren’t just there for you when things go wrong. If you need any advice on aspects of work, including how to interpret a policy or even just some support requesting reasonable adjustments - we are here.

What do we do?

Your committee and representatives are all volunteers who work in the same sector as you. We support members individually with investigations, tribunals, requesting adjustments, understanding their working rights, and in making referrals to our solicitors if needed. However, we do SO much more than that. Monthly, your representatives at KMMH attend the Joint Negotiating Forum (JNF) where we advise on (and sometimes reject) new policies and consultations to ensure that they remain fair and legal. We also carry out our own independent safety inspections, meet with senior leaders, and challenge senior leadership on behalf of our members.

Your membership isn’t just an insurance policy if things go wrong, it allows us to keep doing this work, travelling across the county, representing you nationwide at conferences, and give you free access to expert legal advice. The more members we have behind us, the stronger our voice. We are always looking for new members to get involved in our committee and train to be come representatives or take on officer roles, if you are interested, please get in contact.
